CSHE Advanced Skills Seminars for Sessional Teachers

Enhancing your teaching skills and developing your career in university teaching

This intensive two-day program is designed for Melbourne’s sessional teachers who wish to enhance their teaching skills, improve student learning and explore the possibilities for developing their careers as university teachers. The program will include interactive workshops and seminars in which participants will have opportunities to interact with colleagues from various disciplines in the University.

Program Outline:

Day 1, Thursday October 1 : 9:30 am– 4:30pm

Linking theory and practice: How can research into teaching and learning inform your teaching practice?
Generic skills and Melbourne’s graduate attributes: strategies for the classroom
How can you integrate the development of students’ critical thinking skills in your teaching?

Day 2, Friday October 2 : 9:30 am - 3:00pm

How can you assess student learning?: methods, issues and potential problems
Strategies for evaluating and improving your teaching: What does it mean to be a reflective teacher?
Developing your academic career: What are the possibilities?

Participants will receive a certificate on completion of the program.
