The initiative

The students are required to interview the convenor (as the testator) to gather the appropriate material needed to prepare a will. The only information they are given initially is the name of the person, their address and age.

The interview takes place via MSN hotmail OR by virtual chat on the course's web page. This allows the convenor to retain a printed copy of the interview. The completed will is forwarded to the convenor via Digital Dropbox on web page.

The will may be deficient if the appropriate questions are not asked. The convenor compares the transcript from the interview to the submitted will.

An additional highlight of this piece of assessment is the availability of a local solicitor on the web at an appointed time to advise on the preparation of wills.

The reason for the initiative's effectiveness

Gave students practice at interviewing - highlighted to them that clients do not always want to keep to an interview schedule. Introduced students to new technology. Students benefited also from the experience of the expert.
