Ms Elizabeth A Alexander, Chancellor of the University Melbourne, extends a warm invitation to all University colleagues to join her for the 2011 Teaching Showcase.

The Showcase is an opportunity for colleagues from across the University to collectively celebrate excellence in teaching in the year past and to set the scene for the year to come.

The Chancellor’s Teaching Showcase is a half-day event held in the Basement Theatre, The Spot, Business and Economics. The event is fully catered, this year featuring food crafted with herbs, fruits and meats that are indigenous to Australia.

A New Addition
This year sees the introduction of the Showcase Expo, an opportunity for staff from all corners of the University to highlight and promote the many examples of innovation and excellence in teaching programs, policy and practice and to discuss their experiences and ideas with colleagues.

University colleagues are invited to submit a poster or display.

New Generation Learning
Chaired by Professor Richard James, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Participation and Engagement)

In this session one student from each of the six New Generation Degrees has been invited to share their perspective on teaching and learning during the course of their degree and the particular experiences they believe have been formative in the development of their skills, attributes and capabilities. 

Presentation of the Melbourne Citations for Building Graduate Attributes

The Melbourne Citations were introduced in 2011 to recognise excellence in contributions to students’ development of the University’s graduate attributes. Professor Pip Pattison will present the inaugural Citation recipients with their awards.

Morning tea and Showcase Expo

The Showcase Expo is an opportunity for staff from across the University to highlight and promote examples of innovation and excellence in teaching programs, policy and practice. Showcase attendees are invited to browse the displays during morning tea and lunch. Display presenters will be available during these times to discuss their strategies and ideas.

Celebrating excellence at the University of Melbourne

Each year the University of Melbourne Awards for Excellence recognise outstanding contributions to the experience of our students. The awards acknowledge both academic and professional staff doing outstanding work in the areas of teaching, leadership, student services, Indigenous education, educational programs, research supervision and mentoring. The University also enjoys success nationally, through the award of Australian Learning and Teaching Council awards and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Ms Elizabeth Alexander, Chancellor, will lead this celebration of our outstanding colleagues through the presentation of the awards for excellence.

Professor Field Rickards (Dean, Melbourne Graduate School of Education), Professor Tom Kvan (Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning), Professor Rick Roush (Dean, Melbourne School of Land and Environment) and Professor Robert Saint (Dean, Faculty of Science) will introduce recipients of the teaching, research supervision and leadership of teaching awards.
